I know, ANOTHER blog post about resolutions AGAIN! But this year is extra special for me because I will turn 50 (how can I feel excitement & dread at the same time?). I have been thinking about that milestone A LOT. So I decided it was time to take control of the second part of my life and create the life I want to live. I love my family & friends & enjoy my work…but I no longer want it to take over all of my time. I want to focus on me & quit sacrificing my wants & needs all the time for everyone else. So a blog is born!
I tried really hard to focus my resolutions on improving something about my life. With Covid-19 still very much a reality, I tried to make goals that I can still make at home while socially distancing.
- Learn Spanish. I took Spanish classes way back in high school, but never had the chance to really practice the language. I manage to fumble the language very poorly when my family visits Mexico, but I am sure I sound like a complete fool. My long term goal is to retire in another country in about 5 or so years. It will likely be a country that speaks Spanish. I figured I better start learning! I plan to use Duolingo for this.
- Rediscover my love of reading. I use to read a book a day when I was younger. But then I became busier & reading was the first thing to go. Now the only time I read is when I am on a relaxing vacation (I will usually read 4 or 5 books). I truly believe that reading is good for your mind as well as opens you up to new ideas. I am starting very small, with an obtainable goal…1 book a month, minimum. Maybe it will be fun to start a blog book club?
- Focus on my body’s wellness. Yes, of course I want to lose weight, but I did not want to make that my goal. Since I have not been as active this year as I have in the past (due to staying home & socially distancing), I have really noticed that my body is beginning to age and not be able to do the things I used to take for granted. I can also tell that the added weight gain is affecting my back and legs more. I want my focus to be daily stretches or exercises, and healthy choices. I really just want to train myself to make it something I think about on a regular basis.
- Focus on my home. When we purchased this home 13 years ago, we bought a 106-yr old home that had great bones and NO updates. We spent the first few years on a lot of stuff…and then Petered out. We focused on travel and other interests. Then I began my home staging company and the last thing I wanted to do was think about my house. With all of this extra time at home this past year, I rediscovered my desire to work on my home. I hope to focus on a monthly project to check some things off of my list! I will be sure to share that with you.
- Blog! Just the mere fact that you are reading this is HUGE and helping me make my goal. Reflecting on the past year, I realized I have lost my joy in doing anything…I am always rushing to get things done and move on to the next task. I hope this blog will be a chance to rediscover and share creativity and ideas as well as build a community of like-minded people.
I will share my progress on my goals as the year progresses. I welcome any advice or insight.
What are your top goals for 2021?
